FILLINGS

Dental fillings are one of the most common procedures performed in dentistry. Fillings are required when trying to restore a tooth back to its original shape after minor damage.

Dr. Gile performs two main types of fillings. Silver amalgam fillings are used in areas that withstand large amounts of chewing force. Its strength and durability make it the best material for teeth in the back of the mouth.

Newer filling materials, called composite resins, are used in areas of the mouth where it is important to restore the tooth’s natural appearance. They come in a variety of shades to match each tooth perfectly and create a seamless transition between filling and tooth.

ROOT CANALS

Root canals can be needed in a variety of situations. The most common reason is an untreated cavity. When you leave a cavity untreated it allows bacteria to work in to the center of the tooth and infect the pulp tissue. Bacteria can also come into contact with pulp tissue through chipped or cracked teeth.

Additionally, trauma to the tooth can cause pulp tissue to be damaged. When this infection or inflammation occurs it can be very painful. In order to alleviate the pain, a root canal is necessary.

During the root canal, the damaged pulp tissue is removed and the chamber is cleaned and disinfected. A bio-compatible filling is then placed in the chamber and a final restoration is placed to further protect the damaged tooth.

DENTURES

Gum disease, injury and tooth decay can all cause the loss of your natural teeth. Complete and partial dentures restore a smile by replacing missing teeth.  With modern technology available at Gile Family Dentistry, Dr. Gile can make your dentures appear more natural and feel more comfortable.

Complete dentures are artificial, removable replacements for the natural teeth.  A partial denture attaches to existing teeth and fills space where natural teeth have been lost.

It may take some time to adjust to your dentures.  Just like natural teeth, caring for your removable appliance is essential to the durability and overall health of your mouth.

TOOTH EXTRACTIONS

Sometimes teeth need to be removed. This can be caused by a variety of reasons. Tooth extraction is usually a routine procedure.  Your teeth are attached to your jaw bone with fibers that must be carefully loosened to free the tooth.  Regardless of the level of difficulty, tooth extraction is a common occurrence that Dr. Gile can help you with.

Your third molars or “wisdom teeth” usually appear in your late teens or early twenties. We often lack the proper space in the jaw for them to erupt fully, if at all.  This is common and if not removed, can cause pain and swelling under the gums.

If a tooth is partially erupted it becomes very difficult to clean and is very susceptible to decay. Wisdom teeth are usually extracted in the late teens or early twenties because there is a greater chance that the roots have not fully formed and the bone surrounding the teeth is less dense.  Call us today for a consultation with Dr. Gile!  She and the team will take you through the procedure, start to finish, to make it as relaxed and comfortable as possible.

MOUTHGUARDS & NIGHTGUARDS

While mouthguards are exceptionally important for contact sports, we also offer nightguards for grinding and clenching teeth.

Bruxism is grinding, gnashing, or clenching your teeth. While occasional teeth grinding is not harmful, more frequent grinding can lead to tooth fracture, tooth loss, and damaged enamel. Grinding your teeth may lead to other health complications such as jaw disorders and headaches.

Grinding is typically caused by stress, anxiety, or misaligned teeth.  Quite often, bruxism occurs during sleep.  Nightguards are an easy way to prevent damage. Custom-made from a soft material, a night guard is inserted over your top or bottom arch to prevent contact with the opposing teeth.

SEALANTS

A tooth sealant protects the grooves and depressions on the surfaces your back teeth.  It works especially well to prevent bacteria and food particles from causing tooth decay. Sealants are placed on the molars and premolars to protect areas that can be difficult to reach while brushing.

Ask us about adding sealant to your next cleaning appointment.  The extra protection for your teeth can save you a lot of money in the long-run!

CROWNS, BRIDGES & VENEERS

A crown is a protective cap that is cemented on top of the remaining tooth structure. The cap covers the entire portion above the gum line. Crowns are used when a large amount of the tooth is damaged, broken, or fractured. Crowns are custom made to fit each tooth and made from a variety materials, including ceramic, porcelain, and metal.

A dental bridge is a cosmetic procedure that fills gaps caused by missing teeth. Bridges not only correct aesthetic issues, they prevent teeth from shifting into empty space.

Veneers are a great way to correct minor dental imperfections such as staining, spacing, and chipped or misaligned teeth. Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells of tooth colored material that cover the front surfaces of teeth. They are natural in appearance and provide a protective covering to maintain the strength and integrity of your teeth while offering a cosmetically pleasing smile.

Digital Scanning

We are a digital imaging practice and proud owners of an iTero Scanner. The iTero is a state-of-the-art digital scanning system that not only eliminates the need for unpleasant traditional alginate impressions, but also provides you a real time image of what the dentist sees when she looks in your mouth. With our iTero, we can digitally capture a detailed, 3D model of your teeth and gums in a matter of minutes. Not only is the iTero digital scan more comfortable than the old putty-based impressions, but it's faster and provides images that are more precise and reliable than the traditional analog method.

We implement our iTero Scanner in many areas of the office. During each cleaning and check-up we will take a new and updated scan of your smile. This can not only help you visualize what the dentist sees during your exam, but can also be a very helpful tool in diagnosing wear progression and other slowly occurring processes in the mouth. As mentioned before, we also use the scanner in place of traditional impressions for crowns, bridges, and implants. Lastly, we use our iTero Scanner for Invisalign® clear aligner treatment and post-treatment smile simulation.

Teeth Whitening

Dulled or yellow teeth can be caused by many different things and can take away from a bright beautiful smile. There are many products and techniques available for patients who want to achieve a brighter smile, and with so many options available, it can be difficult to choose the method that is right for you. The best way to begin any teeth whitening regimen is to schedule an appointment and talk to your doctor about what might be best for you.

Tray bleaching is a type of professional whitening that uses trays and whitening gel only available through your dentist. We offer custom trays that fit your teeth like a comfortable glove along with at home, prescription-strength gel. Unlike over-the-counter products, this process whitens your entire natural tooth and contains ingredients intended to provide maximum results and comfort.
